Congressman Allen West addressed the Georgia Republican Party State Convention Victory Dinner.

GP: “You’re not coming here to announce that you’re running for the U.S. Senate from Georgia, are you?”

AW: “No, I think if I were to do that, I’d have everyone from Paul Broun to Phil Gingrey to Jack Kingston, and who’s this other…Karen Handel…. I don’t know if I could fight my way out of that. I mean it’s bad enough that I’m in Athens, Georgia, and I’m a University of Tennessee graduate, from Georgia, so it is tough being here, but that’s okay.”

GP: “One of the big issues that we’re beginning to struggle with as a party is outreach to African-Americans….”

AW: “First of all, I would rather you say Black American, because when people say ‘African-American,’ that is a collectivizing term. I have friends in South Florida who are Caucasian and they’re from the former Rhodesia, Zimbabwe, they’re from South Africa, and now they’re American citizens, and they consider themselves what? I think that we have to be careful about that because the other side does a good job of balkanizing us and so I don’t like to hyphenate. I’m an American Black. That’s how I like to be referred to.”

GP: “One of the problems that we as white Americans have is we’re afraid to say ‘Black,’ we’re afraid we’re going to offend somebody.”

AW: “You’re terrified. But you see, Todd, that’s the exact thing we need to look at and talk about. The other side has been so successful at managing lexicon and the language that they have white Americans afraid. Afraid to say anything.”

“But yet you can have the President Emeritus of the NAACP, Julian Bond, a Georgian, he can stand up there and say that the Tea Party, just basic Ma and Pa, who believe in the Constitutional Republic that we live in, he’s comparing them to the Taliban, so we have to stop allowing the other side to put us in corners and make us afraid to say anything.”

“We’ve got to challenge them. It’s just the same as you don’t hear people in Washington, DC say ‘government spending,’ anymore, it’s ‘investment.’ Government doesn’t invest anything, they spend your money. So, let’s understand that words do matter, and let’s stop allowing ourselves to be pigeon-holed.”

Allen, Angela and the West Family joined Fox and Friends Sunday 5/12/13 – Video

5/12/13 – Former Congressman Allen West on Sunday (R-FL) said that an admission by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that it had improperly scrutinized tea party groups was part of a wider conspiracy that included President Barack Obama’s administration forcing Republican-owned car dealerships to be shut down during the auto bailout in 2009.

Fox News host Alisyn Camerota asked West if he had any indications that the recently-revealed IRS practice of examining whether tea party groups were abusing their tax-exempt status was not limited to “rogue, low-level IRS agents in the Cincinnati office who thought that they were going to personally stick it to the tea party.”

“Well, of course,” the tea party-favorite Republican declared. “The most important thing we need to come to understand is your First Amendment rights is you have the right to petition the government for redress of your grievances. If we start to have a government that is targeting certain groups for their political ideology because they don’t believe it is in concert with their beliefs, this is Orwellian, to put it in the least manner.” “We’ve got to come back and have hearings on this,” he continued. “This is something that is criminal.”

Camerota wondered if West knew why the IRS had been asking tea party groups for their donor lists.

“One of the things you have to understand with those donor lists — and this is something that was brought up before the Small Business and also the Oversight Committee when I was there in Congress — they are after those lists because they want to put a lot of pressure on individuals,” West explained. “And there are a lot of folks out there concerned about coming out and being forthcoming about their support to political candidates and what have you.”

“There were a lot of automobile dealerships that were closed down because people found out who they were providing funds and support to, when you go back and look at that auto bailout.”

As part of Chrysler’s bailout deal with the U.S. government in 2008, the company agreed to close about a quarter of its 3,200 dealerships. By 2009, conservative media outlets like The Washington Examiner and Fox News were suggesting that the Obama administration had been disproportionately targeting Republican-owned dealers.

But FactCheck.org looked into the claims in September of 2009 and found that the “best evidence shows that dealerships with Republican donors weren’t disproportionately targeted — auto dealers overall tend to lean overwhelmingly Republican.” And even a Fox News study determined that “the data do not support the charges.”

“Nobody has bothered to look up data for the control group: the list of dealerships which aren’t being closed,” FiveThirtyEight’s Nate Silver wrote in 2009. “It turns out that all car dealers are, in fact, overwhelmingly more likely to donate to Republicans than to Democrats — not just those who are having their doors closed.”

“Overall, 88 percent of the contributions from car dealers went to Republican candidates and just 12 percent to Democratic candidates,” Silver pointed out. “There’s no conspiracy here, folks — just some bad math.”

Allen West promises to use his new found freedom to defeat Obama’s liberal progressive agenda

In a message to supporters sent on Tuesday, West showed no sign of leaving the political stage.

“As a member of Congress, I was only one vote out of 435. But I was one of a few who once wore the uniform of the United States military and who understood how to wield and preserve American power,” West insisted. “We love our great nation too much to sit back and take our loss in 2012 as the final verdict on America. That’s why I intend to use the new found freedom I’ve been given to take my efforts to defeat the Obama liberal progressive agenda to the next level.”

West also gave a sneak preview of his CPAC address, promising to reveal more of his PAC’s agenda. “When I give the opening keynote address at CPAC on Thursday, I will outline the Guardian Fund’s plans to double our efforts to expose and combat the Obama administration and its progressive plans,” West noted.
Pledging to raise $5 million for his group, West promised to build a “grassroots army to help elect 12 new hard-charging constitutional conservatives who either have a military background or are minorities committed to taking a stand against big government and President Obama for the next four years.”

West also outlined some of the principles of his new group:

“As a soldier, I know what America needs to secure the future for the next generations,” West maintained. “First and foremost, Americans want to be safe. Safe at work, safe at home, safe from radical Islamic terrorism. Second, Americans want to be free. Free to start a business and to reach for the American dream. Free to do what they are promised to be free to do in the U.S. Constitution. Free to retire without debt, without remorse, and without bankrupting their children’s future.”

West ripped into President Barack Obama with a strong personal attack. “Americans want to be respected and told the truth by the leaders they elect. President Obama does not tell the truth nor is he trustworthy. He’s lied about Obamacare, he’s lied about raising taxes, he’s lied about spending, and he’s lied about putting America first.”
