Happy New Year to our constituents, fellow Floridians, and all Americans, it is Monday, January 2, 2012 and as I sit here in our Fort Lauderdale District office, I am pondering the year ahead and I wanted to convey a few thoughts with you.
First I’ll start out on something light…come on, we are too serious too much of the time, right? I do hope that so far your favorite college football teams have done well… yeah, yeah, my Tennessee Volunteers had a rough year. However, I cannot wait for the Kansas State-Arkansas game. As well, I was happy to see the Miami Dolphins finish their season on a winning note, and congratulations to Jason Taylor on his retirement from pro football after 15 seasons. I can rejoice in my hometown Atlanta Falcons making the NFC playoffs!
In reflecting back on 2011, it was an incredible year and I shall never forget swearing-in day, January 5th- family photo here. I have been quite busy in the past year and am so proud of my congressional and district office staffs who have made this year a success.
Some of the year’s highlights include:
946 votes cast (98.8% voting record)
219 pieces of co-sponsored legislation
367 meetings with constituents
56 business visits in the district
7 pieces of legislation introduced:
*1 passed on House floor, 2 included in the National Defense Appropriation Authorization regarding Department of Defense Reductions
400 emails received every day to my office
45,656 pieces of mail sent from the office
I’ve attended 38 Small Business Committee hearings or briefings
I’ve attended 31 House Armed Services Committee hearings or briefings
I’ve held 4 Tele-Town Hall Meetings reaching approximately 4,000 people
I’ve held 20 in-person Town Hall Meetings with approximately 250 attendees each
As far as social media, I have built up my pages quickly and am told I’m leading the pack with my tweets and updates. They’ve been a significant part of how I communicate with you daily:

As we begin 2012, let me remind you of my commitment to be the best possible Congressional Representative that I can be for those whom I serve. There is much more to be accomplished in 2012, however, I am proud to say in 2011, during the first session for the 112th Congress, the conversation in Washington, D.C. has changed. It wasn’t easy, but with the support of the American people, we did it.
I am honored to be able to serve my nation in the House of Representatives. I look forward to continuing the mission of making sure our nation is fiscally and physically secure.
I will continue each week to update you on the challenges our Congress and our nation faces and will work each day on your behalf.
May you and your family have a wonderful 2012.
Steadfast and Loyal ,
