Former Congressman and Army officer Allen West tells Newsmax that the bombings at the Boston Marathon on Monday show once again that terrorism is “relentless” and demands constant vigilance.

The Florida Republican also warns that every American is in a “combat zone” due to the threat of terrorists, who seek to create as much death and destruction as possible.

West rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel and served in Iraq and Afghanistan before his retirement in 2004. He was a member of the House Armed Services Committee and the Tea Party caucus but lost his House seat in redistricted Florida in 2012. West is now director of Next Generation programming at PJ Media.
In an exclusive interview with Newsmax TV on Tuesday, West discusses the tragedy that unfolded in Boston.

“First of all I want to send out heartfelt condolences to those who have lost a loved one, those who are wounded – multiple amputees – as well as some of the South Florida running community that were there in Boston.

“One of the things we have to understand is this idea of terrorism is something that is relentless, it’s very determined, it’s very diligent, and we have to continue to keep the pressure on. Remember we have to be right every time and they only have to be right one time, and we saw that occur.

“It is very troubling that again we have this happen, but we were very successful, maybe even lucky, that the Times Square bombing did not occur, we had the underwear bomber that was on the aircraft that was landing in Detroit, we had the gentleman who wanted to take an attack against President Bush down in Texas.”

Senior White House officials say they consider this an act of terrorism. But President Barack Obama, speaking from the White House on Monday, pointedly avoided using the words “terror” or “terrorism.”

“It is significant,” West observes. “I hate to say it but in a lot of people’s minds we still have not resolved the issue of Benghazi and many of us are concerned about that. A lot of the words that we heard from the president yesterday kind of mirrored what we heard about Benghazi, and we have not gotten to the bottom of it, we have not brought anyone to justice. We lost an ambassador, two former Navy SEALs and a state department worker, and we know it’s a terrorist attack.

“Words do matter and I can’t understand why the president did not call this a terrorist attack because that’s what everyone has called it, especially when we look at the issue of improvised explosive devices and the fact that they were from the waist down so you had the horrific effect of losing limbs, but also the fact that you had multiple explosions. This is kind of like a kill zone that was designed there toward that finish line at the Boston Marathon.”

Mideast and terrorism expert Walid Phares told Newsmax on Monday that there’s a 50/50 chance the Boston bombings are the work of foreign terrorists, perhaps al-Qaida. West was asked if the bombings appear to be an act of jihad or domestic terrorism.

“We don’t know. We have to get to the bottom of it and I’m sure a bomb always leaves a signature and we have some of the top bomb experts and forensic experts in the world and they’ll be able to piece it together,” he responds.

“But when you look at what we call in the military the TTP, the tactic technique procedures, yes it does look like the type of event and improvised explosive device that you would see in the combat zone in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“But we also have to understand that IEDs are used down in Mexico and we know that we have a Hezbollah influence down there and an Iranian influence in South America. We need to wait and make sure we get the right type of evidence.”

As for the motive of whoever was responsible, West declares: “The motive is very clear — to instill terrorism. The motive was to create as much death and destruction and maiming of American citizens.

“This was a very intricately planned event and the fact that it was in hour four of the marathon means you have security that is relaxing a little bit, you have more of the family-oriented runners that are coming in, so the perpetrators knew exactly what they were doing.”

Asked if we can expect similar attacks in the future, West tells Newsmax: “The element of surprise is lost and that’s the thing that a terrorist wants to create. I don’t believe that they will want to try to follow that with another type of attack because you already have people at a heightened state of security and awareness.

Justifying Conservatism – Are You a Messenger or a Hindrance?

conservatism

by: Tanya Grimsley

Recently throughout my travels in the social networks I have discovered even more discord now then I did before the selection of Mitt Romney as the GOP candidate for 2012. I find myself wondering why some days and can come to only a few conclusions which are strictly my personal views or things that I have actually seen transpire among conversations that I witnessed.

In the world of social networking there are a few things that I have noticed more than others. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, on their own profiles.  To the numerous friends throughout whichever network you are on determines when it becomes another’s right to interject their thoughts and opinion. Herein lies a problem. In a group setting, a group is normally set up with a main topic as the core for the group. I will use for example “Allen West Republic” on Facebook. With its many members and diverse opinions, the structure which is based on the Allen West brand of conservatism can be many things to many people. Albeit the creators intentions were to keep things soundly about the message of Allen West and the things that he talks about. That is not always the case within this, or any group.

Everyone brings something different to the table when you are socializing. There are the strong-willed people, who believe only what they believe. There is no changing their minds. There are the middle ground folks who interact with everything and everyone to get the best circulating opinions. Then they take it to their friend’s and other groups or social networks. Then there is the meek minded, they tend to watch and never comment. They are generally clicking like on everything just to appease everyone because they are not quite sure where they themselves stand. In the end they are looking for the strongest, wisest answer to appear out of the conversation.

There are bloggers who have interests that are different from those who do not blog. Then there are those that aggregate articles from all over the internet. They take and post what is foremost on their minds. The ones that I love are the ones with a strong solid message. They stick to it, everyday, it is their niche’ it is what they do. They know it like the back of their own hand. They can answer any question or have anything you need available at almost a moments notice.

Willingness to help seems to be of short hand lately.  Since the GOP lost the election (no matter who or what the reason was – we lost) the divisiveness among people  is sad.  How do we ever expect to unite under a given umbrella at any point in time if we do nothing? How does passing the message of our own personal opinions and not taking criticism or listening to others views helpful? Why does everything become a battle among who is right and who is wrong? The message of unity is not sound, we do not reach out to one another, we are being selfish, stuck up snobs and its just getting worse.

How do we change it? Better yet………. will you take the time and change it? Do you see yourself as one who needs to change?

1. Conservatism – Conservatives

2. 100% Tea Party – Conservatives

3. GOP – Conservatives (not everyone who claims Republican/GOP is a RINO)

4. Libertarian – Conservatives (yes, I have numerous friends who are)

Look deep my friends. We are not uniting, we are not learning from this past election. If we throw in the towel, whether you are saying it was a million different things, there is no changing them.  We have and are certainly accepting defeat for ourselves and the next generations to follow. I ask you to look at your conversations. Especially those lately. How many times have you “given up” or said “he who counts the votes controls the outcome” or this one “my candidate should have been the GOP nominee and we wouldn’t have lost”. There are many more things I could list here.  I will refrain for now.

The conservative umbrella is HUGE. The effects that are rolling downhill have picked up a strong and steady pace. We are not only in jeopardy of losing again in 2016,  we also will greatly affect the many generations who come after us. I am not saying that standing by your personal opinions is wrong. What I am saying is unless we get to the roots of our problems as a whole. Address how to take this conservative banner forward as one, then we will lose our Republic.  We are hanging on a thread right now. The tyranny we see before us daily should have us in masses reaching out to those we  don’t see talking about things but are all over the social networks. We should be educating the young ones while there is still the opportunity.

I am a Bible believing, God-fearing, conservative. Daughter, Sister, Mother, Wife, Grandmother, and friend. There is nothing too big for God to fix. There is nothing that we are going through at this stage in our country that we can’t get ourselves out of with His help. Matthew 18:20 “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”  No matter the circumstances surrounding us now, or how outnumbered, how defeated, how depressed you may feel. The only way we can get through this together is to unite the entire conservative umbrella.

That starts with pointing the fingers at ourselves and saying……… am I just a blogger dumping my messages everywhere and never taking the time to go back and interact in a non confrontational manner?

Am I just a confrontation starter, you don’t see it my way so I will pound you verbally until you go away?

Or am I just the fence straddler, afraid to say how I feel? Do I let the other people affect how I will come to a conclusion on a given subject?

The point being, we must all take time to see the bigger picture. He or she may be “smarter” in certain things than I am.  Should that ever prevent someone from asking a question? The fear of being made a fool of  is a solid fear, whether by the person who posted or those participating in a  comment thread.  How do we expect to get our message to the young people before the next voting cycle when we can’t even treat each other as sources of knowledge instead of always being combative?

As always, looking for your comments. Your ideas. Thoughts and opinions. Trying to justify a behavior for the past conversations is not what this is about. It is where do we as a collective go from here. Also, why these other situations and behaviors must end.

I know there will be many people reading who won’t stop and see they are at fault, or even consider themselves in any way a part of the divisiveness. This will continue to tear the cause of conservatism apart. We have less than four years to get this right. Focus people, its the only chance we have. It starts with ourselves

Allen West Statement “We Should Only Redouble Our Resolve”

For two weeks since Election Day, we have been working to ensure every vote is counted accurately and fairly. We have made progress towards that goal, thanks to the dedication of our supporters and their unrelenting efforts to protect the integrity of the democratic process. While many questions remain unanswered, today I am announcing that I will take no further action to contest the outcome of this election.

While there are certainly still inaccuracies in the results and the actions of the St. Lucie County and Palm Beach County Supervisors of Elections rightly raise questions in my mind and for many voters, after much analysis and yesterday’s recount in St. Lucie County, our legal team does not believe there are enough over-counted, undercounted or fraudulent votes to change the outcome of the election.

While a contest of the election results might have changed the vote totals, we do not have evidence that the outcome would change. Given the extremely high evidentiary hurdles involved in a successful challenge, I will not ask my generous supporters to help fund a drawn-out, expensive legal effort with little chance of success. Therefore, we will not contest the certification or challenge the seating of Congressman-Elect Murphy.

Serving the people in the House of Representatives has been among the highest honors of my life, but this seat does not belong to me, or for that matter, to any individual. It belongs to the people. I want to congratulate my opponent, Patrick Murphy, as the new Congressman from 18th Congressional District. I pray he will serve his constituents with honor and integrity, and put the interests of our nation before his own.

I must thank my wife Angela, and my daughters Aubrey and Austen for their support, patience, understanding and most of all, love. These are three of the toughest women I know. They have sent me off to defend our nation overseas at war and to Capitol Hill to serve our nation in the House of Representatives. They have all handled the challenges of these last few months, and the last many years, with amazing grace. I know they will be my side for whatever is our next chapter.

I must also thank my congressional and campaign staff for their service, and most importantly, I must thank you and our other tremendous supporters who provided their time and money to power our campaign. I am humbled by the dedication and perseverance of our supporters, and their commitment to a free and prosperous America. I cannot thank them enough for all they have done for our campaign, but most importantly, what they have done, and will continue to do for our country. None of us should let the outcome discourage us. We should only redouble our resolve.

Above all, I want to thank God for his blessings, and for blessing me with the opportunity to serve.

Only God knows what is in store for each of us. I have dedicated my life to serving this nation, and the results of this election will not change my purpose. Just as I did in the deserts of Iraq and Afghanistan, just as I did on Capitol Hill, I will continue to fight for our Republic.

Our nation will not overcome our challenges overnight ,and the road ahead for each one of us will not be easy. But this nation would never have become that shining beacon of light if our founders had chosen the easy path 236 years ago. We all must proudly continue their legacy.

God bless you and God bless these United States of America.

Steadfast and Loyal,

Allen B. West

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Murphy Attempts to Suppress the Vote in Allen West Retabulation

PATRICK MURPHY ATTEMPTS TO SUPPRESS VOTE IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY

Stuart, FL – West for Congress campaign manager Tim Edson released the following statement regarding Patrick Murphy’s lawyers’ attempt to get the 19th Circuit Court Judge to disallow the retabulation of early votes agreed to by the St. Lucie County Canvassing Board:

“In a last-ditch effort to suppress the vote, Murphy’s lawyers submitted sloppy and incomplete papers to the Court this morning to try to strong-arm the judge into preventing today’s retabulation already underway. The Murphy team’s motion is procedurally and substantively lacking. With every action attempted, Murphy demonstrates a complete lack of respect and utter disregard for the voters of St. Lucie County.

Murphy’s efforts bring to mind the dark times in our nation’s history when politicians tried to manipulate the law to suppress the votes, and we are appalled by Murphy’s apparent contempt for the voting rights of citizens to have their ballots accurately and fairly tabulated.

Murphy knows there are votes that have not been counted, but he’s taking legal action to ensure the results are certified anyway. Perhaps the Justice Department should investigate Murphy’s attempt to steal himself a seat in Congress at the expense of the voters in St. Lucie County.”
