I am so incredibly impressed by the dedication and spirit of the people I saw and met in St Lucie County at the SOE. Not since September of 2001, walking to and from Ground Zero in NYC, have I seen such patriotism and comradely from Americans for other Americans that they have never met before. I am deeply touched by the outpouring of genuine emotion and support from people all over this country. Although I could not keep up with all of the social media feeds, I know that there was a plethora of support from people who could not physically be there. As it did for me personally during the recovery efforts after 911, the abundance of support from friends present and the social media feeds was uplifting and very much appreciated. So many people contributed in ANY way that they could to do “Something” to help and support each other and Allen West. Allen West has done so much to bring good people together, he has inspired all of us to become engaged, informed and involved. I am so blessed to have had an opportunity to serve with a Great Man and meet so many wonderful people. I will never forget this experience, it has been one of the best life experiences I have ever had. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank Colonel, Congressman, and my friend Allen West. Also, I want to thank each and every one of you for being such good Americans and great Patriots.

Congressman Allen West joined America’s Newsroom to explain why he’ll fight to prevent cuts to defense spending after the Super Committee’s failure to reach a compromise. Part of the $1 trillion in automatic spending cuts triggered when they failed to reach a deal will come from cuts in military spending.
West said, “The primary role and responsibility of the federal government is to protect the American people. Therefore, we need to make sure that we do have a strong defense.”
When asked how he balances his belief in the need for defense spending with pressure from his Tea Party supporters to cut spending in general, West said, “I think we also have to look at many different government agencies, failed, duplicative programs. Let’s start looking at the subsidies that we have coming out of the Department of Agriculture. Why do we have a Department of Commerce when we have a U.S. Chamber of Commerce? A Department of Energy that was created some 40 years ago to make the United States of America energy independent, but yet our dependency on foreign energy sources have increased from 18 to 66 percent.“

America’s oldest political demonstration formed the roots of the tea party today. In 1773 American colonists, furious over a British tax on tea, dumped a shipload of British tea into Boston harbor.
Conservatives of both parties and Republicans in particular are part of the tea party movement because government spending and taxation are out of control. Spending and borrowing have created an unprecedented debt that threatens our nation. These are the driving principles of the tea party.
The tea party message has resonated across the country and in 2010 the election results were dramatic. Republicans took control of congress and most of the new members were tea party activists. In Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Gov. Rick Scott, Attorney General Pam Bondi and U.S. Rep. Allen West won with tea party support. And across the country over 700 new conservative legislators were elected. Most were Republican.
The tea party has awakened thousands of citizens to the important issues facing our nation. These new activists are studying, learning about self-government and getting involved in the political process. They attend town hall meetings and are contacting their elected officials.
All this has alarmed the left, which is now using all their old angry rhetoric from the past. The left is angry because they love big government. They believe that government should make more decisions for us and that we are not capable of governing ourselves. Last Wednesday, Leonard Pitts stated the left’s position perfectly. “The new Republicans and tea party people are anti-government, anti-Muslim, anti-gay, anti-science, anti-tax, anti-facts and anti the new demographic represented by a dark skinned president (meaning blacks).”
These are angry, absurd and inflammatory statements. Republican and tea party people are not anti-government. To do away with government is anarchy and they believe in the Constitution and this excellent form of government. But they do believe that government must be reduced in size.

There is a huge uproar these days about the direction our republic is headed. There is a lot of discussion about spending, debt and entitlements. There are a lot of suggestions out there about what could and should be done. During these discussions, many display anger and frustration toward our elected officials, but ultimately, all the problems we currently face can be placed right back in our laps. What is happening today is a direct result of our lack of engagement – or perhaps our engagement, exacerbating the problem.
We have been electing leaders to go to Washington for decades to “bring home the bacon,” when that was never the intent of our founders. When I think of our founders risking their lives and pledging their sacred honor for our freedom, when I think of the bloody feet of the soldiers in the snow at The Battle of Trenton, to enable our elected leaders today to “go get bacon,” I know they would be disgusted with us.
Our good intentions are killing us.In the last century, we allowed our Government to begin a “war on poverty,” (an unwinnable war) which is not defined anywhere in our constitution. This war has failed miserably and has become rampant with fraud. I saw first-hand some of those who are defrauding our government while I was in the banking field. Quite honestly, this war has permitted extended families and churches to shirk their God given responsibilities in this area, “because the government takes care of that.” It is time the Federal Government had an exit strategy from this war, and placed the responsibility for this where it should really be.
We allowed our government to begin insuring seniors in the last years of their lives, a plan that was never part of the vision for America, and is not defined anywhere in our constitution. This one area now controls the largest portion of the liabilities that are bankrupting our nation. In the last few decades our Federal Government has led millions of people to not plan for themselves, but to be dependent on the Federal Government for their existence. Sadly, I met a lot of these elderly people while I was in the banking field. In addition, this system has quite honestly permitted extended families and churches to shirk their God given responsibilities in these areas, “because the government takes care of that.” Our founders did not risk their lives to create a dependency – they wanted to provide freedom for their posterity.
