The Motto’s That Define Us - The Obama administration could use a few good words

What a week! We have officially opened our new office/studio here in Washington, D.C., and it is great to have a finger on the pulse – yeah, I know exactly what you are thinking.

It has been one heck of a week, and I can tell you I’d much rather be me than the occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Now you ask, “Why?” My response is the subject for this week’s missive – mottos.

See, I grew up in an organization defined by its respective mottos, creeds that guided those of us who served. And if people are really sincere about their service to this nation within their respective military units, these mottos define them for the rest of their lives.

I recall being a young fella and watching the movie “The Green Berets” with John Wayne. I remember the scene of him standing at Airborne School and shouting, “Who are you?” and hearing the reply, “Airborne!” The next challenge was “How far?” and the response was, “All the Way!” Years later, there I stood on that same training ground shouting: “Airborne, sir! Airborne Sergeant Black Hat!”

And when I and the rest of the 4th Battalion, 325th Infantry Regiment (Airborne Battalion Combat Team) reached our first duty station in Vicenza, Italy, we took pride in our challenge and response, “Airborne all the way!” This motto signified that we were a cut above others, that our standards were just a bit higher. We were U.S. Army paratroopers after all.

My second duty assignment was in the famed 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kan. Our motto harkened back to the division’s incredible landing on Omaha Beach, France, on D-Day: “No mission too difficult, no sacrifice too great, duty first.”

That simple creed articulated what it meant to serve in that division but also to serve our nation. It was never about you. It was about duty first!

I also was an artillery officer and commanded Bravo Battery, 6th Field Artillery Regiment, where our motto was “Swift and bold.” I have always tried to honor that creed by being swift to action, not delaying, and being bold in my stance for freedom and principle.

After I commanded, I served in the 4th Battalion, 5th Field Artillery Regiment. (Trivia fact: Our sister battalion, 1/5 FA, was the home of Alpha Battery, which was known as “Hamilton’s Own” after our first Treasury secretary, Alexander Hamilton, who served in that historic artillery outfit.) The motto of the 5th Field Artillery was “Faithful and true,” and God knows none of us are perfect but what a fantastic motto. To be faithful to a set of principles and true to something greater than self is the epitome of being a selfless servant of the republic.

Proud to be ‘second to none’
After instructing the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps at Kansas State University I headed to the Republic of Korea and the famed 2nd Infantry Division. The division motto? “Second to none.” Who the heck doesn’t want to see their unit as first – the best? Who would not want to see America as “Second to none”?

We never apologized for being in the ole Black Patch Division. Some people saw us as the cannon fodder for a North Korea invasion. We knew that if the North Koreans ever thought about crossing the demilitarized zone separating them from South Korea, they would get a butt whuppin’ second to none!

After serving in Korea, I was promoted to major and selected to attend the Army Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kan. My orders then took me to Fort Bragg, N.C., and the 18th Field Artillery Brigade. My mentor Col. Denny R. Lewis was the brigade commander. He instituted a new motto to complement our “Sweat saves blood” unit crest motto – “Tough, proud, disciplined.”

I also served there in the 1st Battalion (Air Assault), 377th Field Artillery Regiment, where our motto was “Be bold, Air Assault.”

In the political realm, what liberal progressives need to understand is that my DNA is hardwired to be bold, tough, aggressive and disciplined in my stand against whatever threatens my nation. Plus I’m an ole Southern boy. Never get our dander up ’cause we like a good old-fashioned fight.

My last two duty assignments – Camp Lejeune, N.C., and Fort Hood, Texas – added the icing to the cake. First I was selected to do an exchange assignment with the 2nd Marines Expeditionary Force and the world knows the Marines motto “Semper fidelis,” translated “Always faithful!” My final assignment was to command an artillery battalion in the 4th Infantry Division, another historic Army unit that landed at Utah Beach, France, on D-Day.

The motto of our 2nd Battalion, 20th Field Artillery Regiment (MLRS) was “Duty, not reward” – that is why we serve. And I still use the motto of the famed Ivy Division to sign off here every week: “Steadfast and loyal.”

Throughout my military career I also had some awesome call signs. OK, they were not as sexy as Maverick, Goose or Iceman from Hollywood’s “Top Gun. But Detonate 6, Ranger 14, Steel 3, Gunslinger 5, and Deep Strike 6 are still great.

What motto’s define Obama and his team?
Why did I share this with you all? Consider the scandals of our current federal government – the fast and furious “gun-walking” scandal; the reaction to the terrorist attack on the U.S. embassy in Benghazi, Libya; the shameful and deadly Extortion 17 incident I revisited last week; the IRS’ politically motivated targeting of conservative nonprofit groups; the Justice Department’s secret collection of Associated Press telephone records; and much more.
screenshot20130516at824
Ask yourself, what is the motto of the Obama administration? What creed do all the president’s men and women embrace as a guiding light to serve and protect the American republic?

What would you see as appropriate call signs for President Obama, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Attorney General Eric Holder?

I recount the units I served and their mottos with great pride. Those simple words were more than just momentary challenges and responses during my military career; they are defining descriptors for my life. And I couldn’t care less what characterless media writers say.

Ask yourself, can our elected leaders sign off with the words you see next?

Steadfast and Loyal,

Allen B. West

Politicians Who Don’t Have A Clue  They ignore reality and shun smart solutions

Before we dive into this installment of the Next Generation weekly update, please make sure you go to our website and print your updated monthly NextGen data card. This will give you the latest stats on key economic indicators so you can compare the Obama administration’s record with the past.

Now let’s tackle the theme for this week: “I don’t have a clue.”

President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama are running around the country, on your taxpayer dollars, talking about gun control. However, a CNSNews.com report by Gregory Gwyn-Williams reveals that there have been 32 background checks for gun purchases every minute during Obama’s presidency.

Between Feb. 1, 2009 and March 31 of this year (the latest data from the FBI) there have been 70,291,049 such checks. That’s 1,520 days, the equivalent of 36,480 hours or 2,188, 800 minutes. So as the president would say, it’s math. Divide 70,291,049 background checks by 2,188, 800 minutes, and voila, you get 32 every minute.

Listening to the POTUS, you would think no background checks have been done during his entire presidency. Doggone, I knew that after retiring I should have opened a gun store with a firing range. At least we have found one business that is booming in the Obama economy.

See, if the president had a clue, he would realize that law-abiding citizens obey the law, and he is just pushing for more laws for them to obey. Perhaps Obama wants to hit 50 background checks per minute. That could be an important political statistic for White House press secretary Jay Carney to report.

However, consider that this week at Lone Star College in Houston, a deranged individual randomly stabbed 14 college students. If all things are equal, then Obama and the first lady should be calling for knife control, or at least box-cutter control or maybe even barbershop straight-razor control.

Actually, we probably should ban cars because we did recently have a severe multiple-car pile-up on an interstate in Virginia.
My former House colleague, Democrat Carolyn Maloney of New York, has come up with her own grand idea — gun insurance. I recently discussed it on Fox News. She doesn’t have a clue, either.

Unbalanced budget priorities

The big news this week is that we finally — and I do mean finally — got Obama’s fiscal 2014 budget. Of course it was two months late. It will result in $8.2 trillion in new debt. Yep, by 2023 the U.S. debt will be $25.4 trillion.

Obama also proposed $1.1 trillion in new taxes on top of the $1 trillion in taxes from his healthcare law and the $600 billion in new taxes via the deal enacted earlier this year to prevent America from going over a perceived “fiscal cliff.”

Obama’s budget also calls for $964 billion in new spending above projected growth. And nope, he has no plan to balance the budget. But fear not good citizens, the president assures us his plan is a “balanced” approach — meaning Obama does not have a clue.
If we implemented pro-growth economic policies and got Americans back to work, then payroll taxes would increase, fostering more solvency for Social Security. We also could up the retirement age from 65 to 68, lift the cap on payroll tax contributions and means test the program to create a defined benefit, not just a blind contribution.

This would get Social Security back to its original and intended purpose, but political leaders need to have a clue in order to do that.

A wake-up call for North Korea and China

On the foreign policy front, here is my recommendation to get Kim Jong Un to pipe down. Target every hydroelectric power plant in the northern part of North Korea that supplies China with power and take them out.

Convey a simple message to China: Get your mad dog under control or else. If anyone, including our president and secretary of State, believes China is really chastising the North Koreans, well, I have some really nice farmland to sell you just west of where I live in south Florida.

Do I believe North Korea really wants to launch an intercontinental ballistic missile toward the United States? No.

I do believe that in order to save face, young Kim-bo-san will have to do something. I believe that something will resemble attacks from two years ago – sinking the South Korean naval vessel or firing artillery into South Korean territory. I believe an attack more asymmetrical or small-scale and conventional than a nuclear strike could occur. We must prepare for that.

I am sure some people will think me crazy, but I recall when President Reagan found out about Libya’s involvement in the 1986 disco bombing in Germany that killed several American soldiers. He took action.

There are times when true leaders know they must convey to an enemy that they are not to be played with — like former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, the “Iron Lady” who died at age 87 this week, launching the power of Britannia against Argentina in the Falklands.

Reagan and Thatcher, well, they had a clue and knew that foreign policy and national security were based upon respect, not likability. History remembers the resolve and leadership of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill during World War II, not his predecessor, Neville Chamberlain. The latter did not have a clue.

Before bidding farewell for this week, I have a special offer to encourage you to become a Next Generation member – an autographed picture of yours truly. It’s our small token of thanks. Even better, you’ll get to see all of our great programming. Please become a member now, and invite your family and friends to do the same!

Steadfast and Loyal,

The Quest For Electoral Integrity - America needs it but won’t get it from this administration

Based upon my most recent experience with elections last November, I have learned quite a bit about voting irregularities. I clearly admit that I have never seen such a lack of professionalism and integrity as in evidence last fall. And if we continue down the path of suspect elections like those in South Florida, among other places, then we no longer will have the consent of the governed.

Therefore, when I found out this Monday, April Fool’s Day, that President Obama had signed an executive order last Thursday, right before Good Friday and Easter Sunday, establishing the Presidential Commission on Election Administration, well, I figured that news, along with the declaration of April as National Financial Capability Month, was a really bad hoax.

To my chagrin, I learned that neither report was a hoax. Unfortunately, the election commission, nine members all appointed by Obama, is a joke in a very real sense.

Their mission is to identify best practices and otherwise recommend ways to promote efficient election administration so that all eligible voters can cast ballots without undue delay. They also have the task of improving the experience of voters who face ballot obstacles, such as members of the military, overseas voters, those with disabilities and people with limited English proficiency.

The commission can consider:

  • The number, location, management, operation and design of polling places;
  • The training, recruitment and number of poll workers;
  • Voting accessibility for uniformed and overseas voters;
  • The efficient management of voter rolls and poll books;
  • Voting technology and machine capacity;
  • Ballot simplicity and voter education;
  • Voting accessibility;
  • The management of provisional ballots on Election Day;
  • Absentee balloting programs;
  • The adequacy of contingency plans for natural disasters and other emergencies that may disrupt elections;
  • And other election administration issues that the co-chairs agree the commission should address.

The stench of hypocrisy

So the administration that did nothing to prosecute the New Black Panther Party for voter intimidation in Philadelphia in the 2008 presidential election is supposed to be trusted to assess obstacles to voting?

The administration that has yet to bring any charges against poll worker Melowese Richardson, who arrogantly admitted to voting six times in Hamilton County, Ohio, last year, is supposed to assess poll-worker training and voter suppression?

The president who heads the party that believes showing a picture ID before voting is voter suppression – but who ironically was nominated at a convention where entrance required picture IDs – is supposed to be objective?

The hypocrisy is incredible.

This executive order truly extends the reach of the president into the business of states, which is exactly what he intends to do. One can only imagine the recommendations the commission will make.

I wonder if the commission will investigate the actions of St. Lucie County, Fla., Supervisor of Elections Gertrude Walker, who admitted to submitting election results with irregularities. She also faces a lawsuit brought against her based upon questionable actions in November.

Will this commission investigate Palm Beach County, Fla., Supervisor of Elections Susan Bucher, who extended early voting without consent of the state and informed only Democratic campaigns?

Are those the type of “best practices” this commission will examine?

Election reform minus the commission

At a time when America is facing a horrendous economic situation, rising energy prices and a national security meltdown on the Korean peninsula, we see where Obama’s priorities are: attacking Second Amendment rights and eroding the integrity of the American electoral process.

Now, all you liberal progressives out there who read this missive and whose heads are about to explode, honestly ask yourselves, what if former President George W. Bush had done this by executive order after the 2000 election? Yeah, you would have gone apoplectic and every mainstream news outlet would have covered this story and demanded Bush’s impeachment.

My election recommendations are simple: Get rid of early voting. There should only be Election Day voting and absentee voting for those who cannot vote in person. Election Day should be a national holiday, paid, and polls should be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., with no rush for the media to proclaim winners.

We should not have same-day voter registration and voting. And in keeping with English being the language of America, ballots should only be in English. Anyone who cannot read and understand the language probably should not be a citizen and, therefore, should not be voting.

Voters should be required to show picture IDs to verify they are who they say they are. Tell me where anyone can go in America without such identification. That is not voter suppression.

Remember Melowese Richardson. How many votes did her multiple voting suppress?
Steadfast and Loyal,

Allen B. West

I waited to see if I was dreaming and not falling prey to silly April Fool’s prank. But, here it is 2 April and it was indeed a real and serious proclamation by the Obama administration: April is National Financial Capability Month. Ya really gotta be kidding me! Today the President announced he is funding the mapping of the human brain, but someone needs to map the brains of the people in the Obama administration (if they can find any).

This designation is asinine, especially as we all, well, at least 53% of us, are about to write checks to the federal government for them to waste on more stupid government programs. And no, we did not need a Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, just another government agency. Ok America, I hereby declare April as National Pony Up Your Hard-earned Capital by Way of Onerous Taxation Month.

Whazzup With Obama’s Policies? – Trouble is brewing on fronts foreign and domestic

Remember the old Bud Light commercials where the guys shouted “Whazzup?” I don’t know if they helped sell product, but they were doggone comical. I wish Bud Light would bring them back.

Unfortunately when you think about events of this week, that Bud Light commercial comes to mind in a more sobering context.Consider this: President Obama made his first trip to Israel, our best ally in the Middle East, since becoming president in 2009. This comes long after trips to Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. And in Egypt in 2009 at his infamous Cairo speech, Obama stated, “I have come here to seek a new beginning between the United States and Muslims around the world.”Since then, Obama has ensured that the “green revolution” for democracy in Iran went unsupported. And mullahs and clerics there are thrilled that as they march toward nuclear capability, Obama still believes we can reason with them.

Obama also made certain that a new Muslim Brotherhood government rose to power in Egypt – and he gave them nice new toys like tanks, fighter jets and even money. He enabled Libya to fall under the control of radical Islamist groups and militias. Hamas and Hezbollah have become stronger, and Syrian President Bashar al-Asaad has ignored many admonitions to resign.Amid all these developments, Muslims are throwing shoes at Obama’s likeness, the greatest insult in their culture, and Palestinians are burning American flags.Whazzup?I thought we were going to have a new beginning in the Muslim world. After all, we withdrew from Iraq and have vowed to take U.S. troops from Afghanistan.I guess the power of the cult of personality just does not work in that part of the world. Israel finds itself in a far more dangerous neighborhood. And why would our president go visit the leader of a gang, Palestine Liberation Organization Chairman Abu Mazen? (Oops, sorry, that is Mahmoud Abbas’ Arabic name.)

Forget domestic tranquility

The news is equally disturbing here in America. This week is the three-year anniversary of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, aka “Obamacare.”The effects of Obamacare on the next generation will be horrific. Those who are 18 to 24 years old will see insurance premiums increase by 45 percent, while the hike is still a hefty 35 percent for those ages 25 to 29. By contrast, rates for the age group 55-59 are expected to decrease 12 percent.Some Americans also will lose healthcare coverage because of new rules that prohibit plans with annual limits. Obamacare is upping the minimum caps to $100,000 this year and $500,000. Commensurate student premiums could go from $500 to $2,000 or more, but then students will be able to stay on parents’ coverage until age 26.Meanwhile, there is a government takeover of student loans that will violate free-market principles, and the massive expansion of Medicaid will strain state budgets further. Sure, the federal government will pay for it, LOL. The end result of this expansion will be less funding for education – or higher state taxes.The fiscal burden we are leaving on the shoulders of future generations is nearing $1.5 trillion over the next 10 years and will explode our national debt.Hey young folks, call up AARP and ask them, “Whazzup?”

Allen West “Obama is finally realizing policy in the Middle East is not like politics in America”

rollcall

by Allen West via Facebook Status Update:

If it’s not obvious then one must be blind. President Obama displays more competence in filling out a March Madness NCAA tournament bracket – which he has always submitted on time – than articulating an understanding on fiscal, tax, monetary and now, foreign policy. His joint press conference yesterday with Israeli PM Netanyahu illustrated someone completely incapable of contending with complex foreign policy issues as he whined everything is “not easy” or “too hard.” Sad thing, President Obama is finally realizing policy in the Middle East is not like politics in America (i.e. American Idol). And if Israeli Ministers said chemical weapons have been used in Syria, I trust their assessment. Guess we will be leading from behind again – down South we call that following.

Allen West “Today I’m thrilled to introduce our new PAC, the Allen West Guardian Fund”

westpac-logo

Patriot,

I’m not known as one to mince words.

On FOX, CNN, Meet the Press, and every TV show I’ve ever been on, I’ve said what I meant and meant what I said. That’s why my life of service is rooted in leading. It’s why people like you respect me for saying what I think – candidly, honestly, and succinctly.

As a Member of Congress, I was only one vote out of 435. But I was one of a few who once wore the uniform of the United States Military and who understood how to wield and preserve American power.

We love our great nation too much to sit back and take our loss in 2012 as the final verdict on America. That’s why I intend to use the newfound freedom I’ve been given to take my efforts to defeat the Obama liberal progressive agenda to the next level.

Today I’m thrilled to introduce our new PAC, the Allen West Guardian Fund. When I give the opening keynote address at CPAC on Thursday, I will outline the Guardian Fund’s plans to double our efforts to expose and combat the Obama Administration and its progressive plans, but I wanted you to be the first to know about this exciting news.

Join me in building a grassroots army to help elect 12 new hard-charging constitutional conservatives who either have a military background or are minorities committed to taking a stand against big government and President Obama for the next four years.

But this isn’t about me; it’s about America. And I can’t do it alone. So I’m asking you to stand firm as we continue this fight because that’s what our country needs and what the next generation, our children and grandchildren, deserve!

Will you stand with me by contributing $25, $50, $100 or more to the Allen West Guardian Fund today?

America is the land of the free and the home of the brave. But which one will prevail over the next four years depends on you, me, and how we together fight to win the battle for our beloved country. That’s why we’ve set an ambitious goal of raising $5 Million in the next 24 months to fund this operation.

As a soldier, I know what America needs to secure the future for the next generations.

  • First and foremost, Americans want to be safe. Safe at work, safe at home, safe from radical Islamic terrorism.
  • Second, Americans want to be free. Free to start a business and to reach for the American dream. Free to do what they are promised to be free to do in the U.S. Constitution. Free to retire without debt, without remorse, and without bankrupting their children’s future.
  • Third, Americans want to be respected and told the truth by the leaders they elect. President Obama does not tell the truth nor is he trustworthy. He’s lied about Obamacare, he’s lied about raising taxes, he’s lied about spending, and he’s lied about putting America first.

The bottom line-America is heading down the wrong path. The liberal progressives in Washington view the United States of America as their experimental laboratory for their failed leftist policies, and we must stop them. That’s why I’m asking for your support of the Allen West Guardian Fund today. Please follow this link to contribute $25, $50, $100 or more today.

Thank you in advance for your support and God bless America.

Steadfast and loyal,
Allen West
Lt. Col. Allen B. West, USA (ret)
U.S. Congressman (2011-2013)

P.S. Now that I’m not constrained by my duties of as a Congressman, I can focus my efforts on revealing the truth about Barack Obama’s dangerous plan for America and the left’s progressive social experiments. I’m thrilled to announce the Allen West Guardian Fund which will help to elect 12 new Constitutional conservatives and defend our Constitution. But I’m counting on you to help us raise $5 million over the next 24 months. Please follow this link to contribute $25, $50, $100 or more today.
