True the Vote Embraces the Future | Next Generation Voters | @BethanyBowra

Youth interest is a key that seems to elude all things remotely political; my generation, known for its apathetic and careless behavior, has thus far been content to allow our futures to be decided by big-government elitists who seek to use their power selfishly.  Most of my peers view politics as something that won’t affect them for “at least another 10 years,” so they see no real reason to step in and get involved today.  Efforts to change this perspective must be performed urgently and significantly if we truly want to preserve this country– no cause can survive more than a generation or two if it fails to purposely train up new leaders who can carry the torch into the future.  This weekend, True the Vote proved, by giving high-schoolers the opportunity to address the summit’s attendees, that they are dedicated to making this engagement a reality.

I had the privilege of joining Tanner Brumbarger and Cesar Ruiz as the youngest speakers at this year’s True the Vote national summit.

Ruiz shared his thoughts on engaging Latino youth who, despite what many believe, do want to be fully immersed in America’s election system because this is our America.  “This is the country we love,” Ruiz said.  He continued:  “We have a chance to vote our values– make our voice heard– yet we remain stagnant.”  He stressed the importance of reaching out to minority youth and sharing the message of election integrity with them.  All political issues stem from election integrity– party affiliation, conventions, key issues and the like.  Ruiz stressed the importance of engaging Latino youth in the election integrity process.  Many Latino countries require photo ID and have strict laws to protect the integrity of their election systems; since they may already be familiar with such practices, use that familiarity to convey the importance of election integrity in the United States.  As Ruiz said, this is the country they love, so let’s keep that in mind when reaching out to them.

This is the type of message that needs to be spread far and wide– how to reach Latino young people, coming directly from a Latino young person.  True the Vote gave Ruiz the platform necessary to share this message with a large audience who can then help him push it out to other sources.

Following Ruiz’s speech, Tanner Brumbarger and I had the opportunity to share a series of points we developed, called “10 Keys to Youth Involvement.”  In a discussion called FutureChoice, we had the chance to share our ideas with some of the most active and vocal folks in the country in the area of election integrity; it was crucial for these activists to hear about youth outreach and was equally crucial for Brumbarger and I to share that message.

Allen West “I am deeply saddened by the loss of Margaret Thatcher. Yet another icon of freedom and conservative principles is gone”

I am deeply saddened by the loss of Margaret Thatcher. Yet another icon of freedom and conservative principles is gone. She stood for free markets, against communism and socialism, and restored her nation’s greatness. We are so starving for this type of resolute principled leadership today and must ensure there is a next generation of leaders waiting to take up the gauntlet.

Read her words, and you’ll understand why I respect her so.

“If you just set out to be liked, you will be prepared to compromise on anything at any time, and would achieve nothing. ”

“The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.”

“I always cheer up immensely if an attack is particularly wounding because I think, well, if they attack one personally, it means they have not a single political argument left.”

“When I’m out of politics I’m going to run a business, it’ll be called rent-a-spine”

Allen West on the “Charm Offensive” by the political chameleon, President Obama

by Allen West via Facebook

It is 11am Sunday morning and I am sitting in the Providence, RI airport. Had a great evening last night addressing a packed room at the Quidnesset CC for the North Kingstown GOP Town Committee Lincoln Dinner. I spoke on The Party of Lincoln using the recent movie to highlight the Republican battle against the Democrats, from physical bondage of individual freedom then to now battling for economic freedom from the bondage of taxation, litigation, and freedom from regulation, which enslaves individual industrialism and entrepreneurship.

As I sit here reading my news update, I just laugh at this supposed “charm offensive” by the ultimate political chameleon, President Obama. Word to America and my GOP colleagues, don’t take a bite of the apple being offered – dinners, lunch, smiling, it’s just the ole Kansas City shuffle. In the end, the lizard is still a lizard, regardless of the changing colors.

Shout out to the Tennessee Vols men’s b-ball team for defeating Mizzou, and K-State for being co-champs of the Big 12. Wish they could have beaten Okla St.

Rep Allen West “Does Anyone Else See the Hypocrisy Playing Out in Michigan?”

Does anyone else see the hypocrisy playing out in Michigan with the right-to-work pending legislation and protest? It is funny how the Left is pro-choice on one very specific issue but against choice when it comes to individual liberty and freedom.

In this instance it is playing out with an individual decision to become a union member. Should not middle income American workers be able to determine where they want their wages, (already horribly depressed in this economy), to go? Obviously not — seems the liberal progressives’ definition of liberty is someone taking the liberty to decide what is best for you and your life. To me, that is tyranny!

Stand With Allen West – Support a Flat Tax

The current income tax system attacks success, imposes enormous compliance costs on taxpayers, rewards special interests, and makes America less competitive. A flat tax would go a long way towards correcting these problems. More importantly, it would get the government out of the way of our economy and job creators.

We support moving towards a flat tax system with a single low tax rate, which would reduce penalties against productive behavior, such as work, risk taking, and entrepreneurship. A flat tax will eliminate many special interest exemptions and loopholes. Such a system will also solve the problems of complexity, allowing taxpayers to file their tax returns on a simple form. A flat tax system will also eliminate the tax code’s assault on capital formation by ending the double taxation of savings and investment income. By taxing income only one time, a flat tax is easier to enforce and more conducive to job creation and capital formation.

I stand with Congressman Allen West in support of a flat tax.

Conservatism 101 for those not paying attention – by Lloyd Marcus

by Lloyd Marcus on Renew America

You and I are politically well informed. But there are many Americans like my family who do not follow politics as closely as we do. Their political views are shaped by liberal media bias hit pieces, spin and sound bites.

99.9 % of my family are democrats because Marcus family traditional taught us the democrats are “for the little guy.” Republicans are “rich white racists.” Liberal media and the Democratic Party jointly support and promote this silly simple lie which still wins the democrats 95% of the black vote.

Despite me, the eldest of his five children being a black conservative tea party Republican, my 84 year old dad’s negative view of Republicans remains steadfast. Dad tolerates my baffling political views because he loves me.

However, I would not be surprised if my family scheduled an intervention. A black van pulls up, a hood is thrown over my head and I’m carted off to an undisclosed location. I am denied food, water, bathroom privileges and subjected to video of Obama speeches 24/7 until I break.

It occurred to me that my family like many Americans are probably clueless regarding the truth of what it means to be a liberal and a conservative. Ironically, the majority of my family lives extremely responsible “conservative” lives. They go to work every day, serve their communities, attend church and raise their kids. And yet, the liberal media has lead them to believe the term “conservative” equals evil white racist.

So, I would like to offer my family and others a little “Conservatism 101.” For fun, let’s call it “Conservatism for Dummies.”

Let us begin with a parable.
