As Written By Brandi Grissom for TrailBlazers:

Gov. Greg Abbott, aiming to spark a national conversation about states’ rights, said Friday that he wants Texas to lead the call for a convention to amend the U.S. Constitution and wrest power from a federal government “run amok.”

“If we are going to fight for, protect and hand on to the next generation, the freedom that [President] Reagan spoke of … then we have to take the lead to restore the rule of law in America,” Abbott said during a speech at the Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Policy Orientation that drew raucous applause from the conservative audience.

Along with the speech, Abbott released a nearly 70-page plan – part American civics lesson, part anti-Obama diatribe – detailing nine proposed constitutional amendments that he said would unravel the federal government’s decades-long power grab and restore authority over economic regulation and other matters to the states.

“The irony for our generation is that the threat to our Republic doesn’t come just from foreign enemies, it comes, in part, from our very own leaders,” Abbott said in a speech that took aim at President Obama, Congress and the judicial branch. All three, he said, have “run amok.”

The proposal for a constitutional convention, which ……

Constitution Amendments requesting “CONGRESS” to act is NOT the SAFEST means..by ANY means..BUT A ”CONVENTION OF STATES”(34 ) propose Amendments to Congress forcing it to ACT & then return them to the STATES (38) for ratification.

LOL – and I’ve got a bridge to sell you too. A CoS is the most dangerous scheme this country has ever faced. It’s a Trojan Horse that will strip us of our constitutional protections, rewrite a new constitution that legalizes their crimes, and removes our Bill of Rights. A State that is NOT corrupt would not give up their authority and power to interpose and nullify ALL unconstitutional AND “unpopular” federal laws and court opinions. Yet, there are still some fools who believe that the States who failed us will suddenly through a CoS save us?

      Read my long explanation above.

IT’S A TRAP !!! You do realize a Con Con OPENS the WHOLE Constitution up for a rewrite, the Liberals are foaming at the mouth wanting this. Say goodbye to the Bill of Rights if this happens. THE STATES ALREADY HAVE RIGHTS, THEY NEED TO GROW A PAIR AND FIGHT BACK, IF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ISN’T ABIDING BY THE CONSTITUTION NOW WHAT MAKES YOU THINK THEY WILL AFTER IT’S CHANGED???

    • marlene

Exactly. It’s the attempt by progressives, communists and globalists to strip us of our constitutional protections, rewrite a new constitution without the Bill of RIghts, and effectively legalize their illegal actions. It’s the nail in the coffin of freedom, liberty, and prosperity. It’s a Trojan Horse that WILL turn America into a banana republic and make us officially wards of the state worse than the monarch our Founders escaped from.

OH HELL NO!!!! Everyone is hell bent on CoS. This is both stupid and dangerous. Stupid because most of the idiots wanting one have no clue as to the danger of it. The danger comes from that once convened NOTHING is off the table, including the Bill of Rights.
People who think this is a good idea have to ask themselves these quesstions. One, who started the movement? Who keeps pushing for it. Lastly, who makes up the agenda for a convened CoS?
I think if you dig deep enough you’ll find that a liberal was the moron that planted the idea into the minds of the weak minded.

George Soros has had a hand in the financing CoS. Not all that glitters is gold. Again, people are making the mistake of leaving our freedom up to people, politicians, that are either being mislead, or are doing the misleading.

      • frankenbiker

Thats because people have gotten lazy and lackadaisical about national politics.

        • hadenough57

          That sums it up frankenbiker.
