What do Teachers Unions have to do with who Wells Fargo does business with? They want to force the banking firm to choke off all relationships with the National Rifle Association or risk losing mortgage business with the American Federation of Teachers. This is the continuation of an Obama era policy of a choke point operation. It is intimidation through the financial sector. Here is what Allen West has to say about all this.
As Written by Colonel Allen West:
And so here it is pile on time for the anti-gun progressive socialist left and their ideological agenda. Perhaps you know the impetus behind the title of this missive, if you do not, you are going to be rather appalled.
At a time when the education standards of our students in the United States are suffering, critically low, we have the leading teachers union, the American Federation of Teachers, stepping way out of their knowledge base.
As reported by The Hill:
A major national teachers union is threatening to cut ties with Wells Fargo over the bank’s deals with the National Rifle Association (NRA).
In a press release Saturday, the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) said that it would ditch a Wells Fargo mortgage program unless the company drops its connection to the NRA.
AFT President Randi Weingarten has been in talks with Wells Fargo CEO Tim Sloan about the partnerships, according to the release.
The group praised other companies, including Dick’s Sporting Goods and REI, that cut ties with the NRA or changed their policies on gun sales in the wake of the mass shooting at a Florida high school in February.
More than 20,000 members of the union participate in the Wells Fargo program to get home financing, according to the release.
“We’re issuing Wells Fargo an ultimatum—they can have a mortgage market that includes America’s teachers, or they can continue to do business with the NRA and gun manufacturers,” Weingarten said in the statement. “They can’t do both.”
The group also published correspondence between Weingarten and Sloan, noting that the AFT has copied the AFL-CIO and plans to encourage other groups involved in the program to drop the bank.
“The lives of students and educators must be valued more than guns,” Weingarten said. “This is America—Wells Fargo has the right to be the NRA banker, but we have rights too. … We have a responsibility on behalf of our members and their students who face potential gun violence every day.”
According to Bloomberg, Wells Fargo has helped firearm companies with $431 million in loans. It also operates accounts for the NRA.”
The typical leftist way of doing things: threats, intimidation, and coercion in order to attain their objectives. Let me explain something to Ms. Randi: first of all Ma’am, perhaps you should be more concerned about tenure for teachers, or maybe you should work on school choice, school vouchers, charter schools, and better support for homeschooling?
Randi, I have a question for you: What did the NRA have to do with the FBI not taking action on the two intelligence tips on the actions of Nikolas Cruz?
Hey there Randi, what did the NRA have to do with the 45 times the Broward Sheriff’s Office responded to domestic disturbance calls reference Nikolas Cruz, but never took action or filed an official report?
Dear Randi, what does the NRA have to do with a Broward Sheriff’s Deputy, Scot Peterson, who was derelict in the execution of his duties and was criminally negligent in not taking action to safeguard the students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS?
Randi, C’mon, what does the NRA have to do with the policies of the Broward County School Board that precluded the expulsion of Nikolas Cruz for violent behavior and threats being reported to the Broward Sheriff’s Office?
And Randi, why such angst at the NRA and not Broward Sheriff Scott Israel who knew that there was no response from his assigned Deputy…but was not forthcoming with that information?
As well, what did the NRA have to do with the criteria for assignment of Scot Peterson as a School Resource Officer, only one, for a High School of 3000 students?
I would ask the same questions of the CEOs of Wells Fargo, REI, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and it appears also, Bank of America. Y’all, please explain to me, a Life Member of the NRA and a sitting member of the Board, what the heck did I have to do with Stoneman Douglas HS? Why am I, a retired military officer, and a former member of Congress, being demonized because I legally own a certain semi-automatic firearm that I use for target practice…to keep my hand and eye coordination sharp.
Dang, Tiger Woods’ former wife assaulted him with a golf club, why didn’t we ban golf clubs? Why didn’t we ask for boycotts of the PGA? Hey Randi, are you mad at golfers also?
This is how the left in America rolls, and shame on those corporations and businesses who are joining in on this collective demonization of law-abiding Americans. Randi, are you so dumb as to not know that it was an NRA member and trained firearms instructor who stopped the rampage at Sutherland Springs Texas…with an AR-15. Also, Randi, you do know that AR doesn’t stand for assault rifle, it is Armalite, the company who first made the AR-15…You did know that, right?
Somehow, the left has spun the heinous actions of an individual into the “never let a good crisis go to waste” mantra of Rahm Emanuel. Funny, the progressive socialist left does not agree with the death penalty for brutal murderers, but they want the death penalty for the NRA.
The left comes up with insidious policies such as a Gun Violence Tax issued against law-abiding legal firearms and ammunition purchases, such was in Seattle, WA. Or how about the policy that victims of “gun violence” can sue gun makers, firearms manufacturers? So, if you bludgeon someone to death with a baseball bat, then we should hold the Louisville Slugger company criminally liable, culpable, accountable, and responsible? Huh, Randi, is that what you believe?
Do not forget, the Obama administration went here before under Attorney General Eric Holder and Operation Choke Point, as written in the National Review, August 22, 2017:
“Operation Choke Point ostensibly used legal and regulatory pressure to “choke off” the financial oxygen for businesses that were exploiting consumers. In fact, the operation had a far wider effect. Early subpoenas issued to banks had attached a guidance document (regulatory “dark matter,” as my colleague Wayne Crews puts it) from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) that warned banks to consider “reputational risk” in their banking relations. The list of industries that could engender such risk included firearms and ammunition sales, pornography, and short-term (“payday”) lending. In other words, industries that were not illegal but of which the previous administration disapproved. Banks responded by cutting off relationships with all these businesses, even ones with whom they had long and trouble-free histories.”
What ol’ Randi Weingarten, and the progressive socialist left are doing is continuing the goal and objective of Operation Choke Point. This is not reflective of what happens in a liberty-based Constitutional Republic whose foundation is a free market economy. So, why is a teachers union leader threatening a financial institution over who they do banking?
Randi, Planned Parenthood kills unborn children every day, children who will never attend school. Should their financial support be threatened? Like I said, you should probably shut up, and teach our kids…Then again, you need to be educated yourself.
