Have you been to drudgereport.com this morning? Have you looked at the headline portion of The Drudge Report to see what is trending in news items? Take a look at the headlines shown below and maybe even read a few. Do you realize what this is saying? Ebola this and Ebola that. It is on the table for discussion everywhere.
What you are seeing here reflects a total lack of vision, direction and leadership from the Federal government. What does it say about leadership when an Ebola exposed nurse can thumb her nose at public safety and go for a bike ride? Where does personal liberty extend to? What would be the right thing to do? If she were walking around randomly shooting off a hand gun she would be controlled. Not much difference, I contend.
Why can’t this nation make an honest and concerted effort to control the entry of disease into this country? Will the world shut down if we restrict our borders in a logical manner? Where is the leadership’s oath to provide for the national security? It is not just security from an invading army, for Pete’s sake. Disease can be a potent enemy as well.
Why are there mixed messages coming from all levels of the government. Ebola can only be passed from direct fluid contact. No, wait! Don’t sneeze! Ebola can be sneezed three feet away. Oh, and by the way, the Ebola germs survive on surfaces for hours in cool weather. We don’t need to quarantine travelers from West Africa but we need to isolate our troops who were sent there? No more than 500 troops are going to West Africa has now changed to 4000? Our allies are upset that the troops we sent to West Africa will be returning to their countries. Wonder why they are upset?
The various states are told that they should follow the Federal guidelines for Ebola control and treatment? However, we see that they are ignoring that and setting their own levels of protection. We have a lawyer with no medical experience appointed as the Ebola Czar in order to be the highly visible and transparent leader of our national effort. (How do you be transparently visible?) I have not seen or heard from him since the presser that announced him.. I guess if you are transparent you cannot be seen. Working behind the scenes reduces your visibility, I guess.
The problem is not Ebola. I have confidence in the great people of this nation. This test of our resolve can and will be met and won. As retired Colonel Allen West (see video) has pointed out numerous times, what is missing is leadership at the highest levels. Decisions are being based on the breaking poll numbers. Sound bites are floated to see how the public responds and then the decision is formulated. Re-election strategies are formulated and decisions are made strictly on a political level. That is not how the greatest nation in the world should be governed. Professional politicians need to be removed from office. It is a privilege to serve this nation, not a perk or an elitist right to rule.
Elections matter. Do your civic duty and vote. Five more days. Turn this around.
